Jonesboro Unlimited is proud to be a sponsor of the The Skirmish: A Delta Gravel Festival, taking place May 29—June 1.
At a press conference held today at Gearhead Outfitters, Bruce Dunn, CEO of All Sports Productions (organizers of The Skirmish), and Craig Rickert, Executive Director of the Jonesboro Advertising and Promotion Commission, detailed the four-day event that features competitive cycling across the rolling hills of Crowley’s Ridge to the sprawling farmlands of the Delta as well as celebration activities including free live music. The event is perfect for riders of all levels with distances of 20, 43, 63, and 100 miles, as well as a family-friendly “slow roll” ride through the Arkansas State University campus and downtown. The 100-mile portion will feature $750 prize purses for both men and women.
“We are extremely excited to be working with All Sports Productions to bring a new and energetic cycling event and multi-day festival to town,” said Rickert. “In addition to attracting cyclists from around the region to visit Jonesboro, there will be many reasons for local residents to join the fun. It is also extremely exciting to see so many outstanding organizations come on board as sponsors of The Skirmish.”
With the rise in popularity of gravel cycling, Jonesboro provides the perfect backdrop for the event and it is a welcome addition to Northeast Arkansas. The festival name, The Skirmish, pays homage to the 1862 Civil War skirmish fought downtown on the grounds of the Craighead County Courthouse. This historical nod adds depth to an event already steeped in natural beauty and local culture.
